As most of our clients are aware, the implementation date of the Emergency Preparedness CoPs is quickly approaching. As we busily prepare, we’ve had a lot of questions regarding these changes and how they might affect booklets. Have no fear! Here are some answers to your most frequently asked questions:
I already have an emergency section. Do I need to add more content?
The new regulation requires agencies to provide education for disasters that are more likely to occur in their specific location. Fortunately, most booklets already have a comprehensive emergency preparedness section so there won’t be much to add however, we will have additional sections available should you want to include them.
How could this affect my notice of privacy practices?
Emergency Preparedness CoPs do not add, delete or change the HIPAA Act Privacy Rule regulations or requirements in any way. The Emergency Preparedness CoPs only mention HIPAA to reinforce the fact that agencies should ensure that they continue to comply with provisions of the Privacy Rule as it relates to dissemination of patient information in an emergency disaster.
When is the compliance/implementation date?
November 16. We will begin offering suggested changes in the coming weeks.
What will MedForms need from me?
Nothing! As previously stated, we will have additional sections and forms available should you want to include them. The only instance where we might need something from you is if you’d like to include something that we don’t already have on file. We will ask you provide that verbiage to us.
Will there be an increase in cost?
It depends. If you opt to include additional sections or forms that will increase your page count, then it will increase the overall cost of each booklet.
What types of booklets does this affect?
Home Health, Hospice, Medicaid-certified Private Duty, Infusion and Pediatrics
