Regulatory Update regarding Hospice Election Statement and Patient Notification of Hospice Non-Covered Items, Services and Drugs Addendum

As our hospice clients know, CMS recently announced its next round of changes. In response, our Regulatory Department is hard at work creating a revised Hospice Election Statement and Patient Notification of Hospice Non-Covered Items, Services and Drugs addendum that will meet the new CMS requirements, so your agency will be prepared for these updates when they go into effect.

The Changes: CMS has detailed changes that will modify the election statement in order to “increase coverage transparency for patients under a hospice election.” CMS has also finalized requirements for the addendum titled Patient Notification of Hospice Non-Covered Items, Services, and Drugs. Both the election statement modifications and the addendum requirements will be effective for hospice elections beginning on and after October 1, 2020 (or the start of your 2021 fiscal year).

What to Expect:  MedForms is currently in the process of developing a form that meets these new requirements. When you reorder in the fall, we will update your booklet with the revised form and addendum. You will have a chance to review the changes at this time, which will also give you the opportunity to educate staff on the new information before you receive your booklets.

Timeline: If your 2021 fiscal year begins October 1, 2020

  • Our updated form will be finalized by mid-August
  • When you reorder in mid-August or early September, we will update the form in your booklet. Our wait time to receive a revised proof is approximately 7-10 business days.
  • Once you review and approve your proof, the printing and shipping process will take 2-3 weeks from that point.

If your 2021 fiscal year begins later than October 1, 2020, please instead consider that date in your reorder timeline.

How many should I order right now?

-We recommend ordering enough booklets to supply your agency through the end of September 2020.

When should I place my reorder?
